Provincial Election to be Moved to Spring of 2018

The government announced today that it will maintain its previous commitment to move the 2018 provincial election to the spring, avoiding any potential conflict with that years municipal elections. The provincial campaign had previously been scheduled to end only two weeks before election day of the 2018 municipal campaign.

Attorney General Yasir Naqvi said that work to move the election date to the spring was “ongoing.” The idea was first proposed by Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer, who argued that a provincial spring election would ensure better weather and avoid overloading voters with two elections in short succession.
