The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is inviting applications for its three stakeholder advisory committees. See below for more information from the BAO:
The BAO was established as a delegated administrative authority (DAA) on January 16, 2016 under the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act, 1996. It is a not-for-profit corporation, responsible for administering provisions of the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 and associated regulations on behalf of the Ontario government. As part of its governance structure, the BAO has a Board of Directors (the Board) supported by three (3) Advisory Committees:
- Funeral and Transfer Services Advisory Committee
- Cemetery, Crematorium and Municipal Advisory Committee
- Faith-based Advisory Committee
These volunteer committees will be comprised of sector and consumer representatives who will provide the Board and the Registrar with expert advice on matters affecting the bereavement sector.
A Nominations Committee comprised of members of the interim Board will review applications from candidates to serve on the Advisory Committees. Those candidates considered most qualified will be recommended to the Board, for their consideration and appointment. Candidates will be drawn from a cross-section of designated sectors, geographical regions and religious affinity (where applicable), as outlined in the eligibility requirements listed within each committee profile:
- Funeral & Transfer Service Advisory Committee
- Cemetery, Crematorium & Municipal Advisory Committee
- Faith-Based Advisory Committee
As the BAO embarks on its first year of operations and transitions its governance process, the interim Board has approved the appointment of inaugural Chairs for each Advisory Committee. These individuals will serve as both Chairs and as Directors of the Board*, for a one (1) year term only.

- Cemetery, Crematorium & Municipal Advisory Committee Chair: Glen Timney
- Faith-Based Advisory Committee Chair: John O’Brien
*Subject to Minister’s approval
If you are interested in applying, please complete an Application for Appointment to Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and submit it by Friday, July 29, 2016. Applications must be accompanied by two (2) letters of support from individuals, associations or religious organizations from the same sector as the committee being applied for. Nominee phone interviews may be conducted in August 2016.
